Rod Stewart in a double pack: four-hour party on two evenings at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood

How lucky a singer must be to be able to easily draw on his vast repertoire of songs to thrill his audience two nights in a row. Sir Rod Stewart could probably be on stage non-stop for a whole week and still not have played all the songs from his long list of hits spanning six decades. At Hard Rock Live in Florida, the Brit therefore limited himself to his great classics at both gigs last weekend. And Sir Rod mixed up the setlists a little on both evenings.

On Saturday, he opened the evening with ‘Infatuation’, followed it up with ‘Havin’ A Party‘ and “Young Turks” as well as the CCR classic “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” and “Rollin” & Tumbling’ and ended the show after 22 songs with the Faces song ‘Stay With Me’.

He then started Sunday with the 1981 classic ‘Tonight I'm Yours’ and immediately followed it up with ‘Hot Legs’, followed by ‘Maggie May’, ‘Some Guys Have All The Luck’ and ‘Forever Young’ - who doesn't immediately get going at the start of a concert like that?

Of course, there are some songs that should never be missing at a Rod Stewart concert. Alongside ‘Maggie May’, this is certainly ‘Da Ya Think I'm Sexy’, about which Sir Rod once said ‘it's probably the most popular song I've ever recorded’. But there are also known quotes from the singer in which he once said that he didn't necessarily want to sing this song when he was 80. Well, he's 80 now and still singing that song. ‘You have to give the people what they want to hear,’ Rod once admitted in an interview. And people - not just in Florida - still want to hear ‘Sexy’ today. So alongside his ‘start-up work Maggie May’, it is an absolute MUST on the set list at every show.

On both days in Hollywood, it was once again peppered with fast, rousing songs. It's a good thing that the singer also has enough ballads up his sleeve to give himself and the audience a break from time to time. Songs such as ‘The Killing Of Georgie’, which made it onto the setlist on Sunday, ‘Tonight's The Night’ or ‘Have I Told You Lately’ are by no means just stopgaps, but are also among the big hits that evoke emotions in the audience. A Rod Stewart concert is therefore not only always a big party, but also a thousandfold indulgence in memories of times long past.

Sir Rod is taking a short break over the next few days, but will be back on stage next weekend. Next Saturday, fans in Austin, Texas, can look forward to a big party and lots of emotion. Because then it's TONIGHT I'M YOURS again!
