Ukraine scandal in the White House: Sir Rod Stewart praises Selensky's invitation to London

It was the political hot topic of the weekend: The failed meeting between US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the President of Ukraine, who were negotiating an agreement between the US and Ukraine. This led to a public dispute between the two, with Trump labelling the Ukrainian president ‘disrespectful’ and ultimately expelling him from the Oval Office.

This scandal caused outrage on the other side of the Atlantic, in Europe. Britain's Prime Minister Keir Starmer was one of the first to react and invited Selensky to his official residence at 10 Downing Street in London as a sign of support.

A gesture that went down well with rock star Rod Stewart, who is currently on tour in the USA. The 80-year-old wrote on Instagram: ‘Proud to be British. Well done Starmer for welcoming Zelensky to Downing Street. We must continue to support the Ukrainians. Sir Rod’

The singer has been supporting Ukraine in its fight for freedom against Russia for many years. A few years ago, Stewart organised aid transports to the war zones, supported Ukrainian refugees by renting them an entire house, and always dedicates the song ‘Rhythm Of My Heart’ to the Ukrainian people at all his concerts as a message for and hope for peace.
