A great honour for Sir Rod Stewart, who has just turned 80, and his wife Penny: it was officially announced today that the music icon and his wife are to become ambassadors of The King's Foundation. The appointment will be made official during the couple's next visit to the Foundation's headquarters in Dumfries House, around two kilometres west of the Scottish town of Cumnock.
In an initial statement, Sir Rod said: ‘We are delighted to come on board as ambassadors for the King's Foundation and look forward to supporting this worthwhile cause.’ His wife Penny is also looking forward to the new role: ‘As a volunteer Special Constable, the Foundation's approach to building communities is particularly close to my heart - and how access to green spaces can help create better and healthier places. I'm honoured to be working with the Foundation and can't wait to meet more of the inspiring people who learn and work for the organisation.’
Kristina Murrin, Chief Executive of The King's Foundation said: ‘Sir Rod and Lady Penny have long been friends and supporters of The King's Foundation, so it's fantastic to cement this relationship with the news of their ambassadorship. We are delighted that they are officially supporting us in our mission to build sustainable communities and transform lives around the world.’
The King's Foundation is an educational charity founded in 1990 by King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) to teach and demonstrate in practice the principles of traditional urban planning and architecture that put people and the communities they are part of at the centre of the planning process.
The Foundation has involved over 8,000 people in the design of a hundred projects, including university campuses, new towns and numerous buildings, including Alder Hey Children's Hospital, which opened in 2015. The projects have also created thousands of jobs in the UK.
