Rod Stewart is celebrating his 80th birthday in a few days' time, which has brought the man, who is currently cruising the Caribbean with his family and celebrating his special day in a purely private atmosphere, back into the media spotlight. Newspapers, radio and TV stations and hundreds of gossip reporters have been clamouring for an interview with Sir Rod in recent weeks. The German Press Agency (dpa) was one of the organisations that got it.

The very humorous conversation covered the familiar topics that are always touched on when the media interview Sir Rod: Football, model railways and Maggie May.  Rod emphasised once again that he did not intend to retire completely, but just no longer wanted to do the big tours. One Last Time, the 2024 tour slogan, has now been extended to the new year that has just begun.

2025 already has a very busy schedule for the Brit with Scottish roots, including the legends slot at the Glastonbury Festival. He will perform there in June in front of a good 120,000 fans. ‘I'm more than capable of inspiring and entertaining the audience,’ Rod told dpa with regard to the Glastonbury highlight. As a kind of preparation, he will be giving two series of concerts in Las Vegas in March and again in May and June at the Colosseum, which has become something of a second home to him since May 2011.

The dpa emphasised that Rod Stewart was and still is a singer who masters all genres of the music circus like a pro. But then Sir Rod resolutely intervened. ‘I can't sing opera and I don't know how to rap,’ he joked during the interview in London. ‘I've never tried to rap either. I'd make a mockery of myself.’

But he wants to continue doing what he knows for a while longer. Plans are maturing for a tour for the album Swing Fever, together with band leader Jools Holland. ‘I would like to play the songs with an orchestra,’ says Rod. ‘I've already spoken to Jools. If he doesn't fancy it, I'll organise it myself’. Doesn't sound like retirement at all, but rather that Sir Rod is far from finished. His millions of fans will be pleased.
