Rod Stewart and the entire music world mourn the loss of Richard Perry

Richard Perry, US music producer and a close friend of Rod Stewart, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles at the age of 82.

Perry, about whom the media once wrote: ‘Many know his music, very few know his face’, produced Rod Stewart's Songbook series, starting with the album It Had To Be You - The Great American Songbook, which was released in October 2002.

Sir Rod was devastated by the death of his friend and made a very emotional statement. ‘I am devastated. Penny and I are close to tears,’ the 79-year-old announced via his social media channels on Christmas Day.

In his long career, Perry also worked with artists such as Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross and the Beatles and was involved in numerous hits, such as ‘You're So Vain’ (1972) by Carly Simon or ‘I'm So Excited’ (1984) by the Pointer Sisters and various albums by ex-Beatle Ringo Starr. 2015 Perry was honoured with the special ‘Grammy Trustees Award’. He was also known as the former partner of actress and activist Jane Fonda.
