As a die-hard supporter of Celtic Football Club, singer Rod Stewart not only follows the Hoops' games, but also enjoys the rivalry with city and arch-rivals Rangers. Now the singer has taken on Rangers legend Ally McCoist in a radio chat and has taken a swipe at his arch-rivals over the club's finances.

McCoist, who played 418 games for the Gers from 1983 to 1988 and also coached Rangers from 2011 to 2014, spoke to online radio station Talk Sport on Wednesday about Celtic FC's chances in the Champions League match against FC Brugge.

Sir Rod didn't seem to like some of McCoist's comments, as he then took a jibe at Rangers, saying ‘We'll probably never win the Champions League, but it's all about the money and the prestige that comes with it - and you know, we spend our money wisely ... unlike the other team in Glasgow.’

Rangers were forced to file for bankruptcy in 2012 and were subsequently relegated to League 4, from which they struggled to fight their way back and were promoted back to the Premiership in 2016. Recently, there have been increasing rumours that Rangers' current financial situation is once again in dire straits. At the moment, the Gers are already eleven points behind league leaders Celtic in the table.

Sir Rod then watched his favourite club take on FC Brugge in the Champions League at Celtic Park on Wednesday evening. In a sold-out Paradise, the Hoops struggled in the first half against a well-organised Brugge side and trailed 1-0 at the break thanks to an own goal from Cameron Carter-Vickers. After the break, the Bhoys in Green got into the game better and deservedly equalised through Japan's Daizen Maeda to make it 1-1. In the closing stages, Celtic pushed hard for the winning goal, but the Belgians remained dangerous at all times. In the end it remained 1:1 - a result that both sides can live with.
