A few weeks ago, we called on you to vote for your favourite Rod Stewart songs from the 1980s and vote them into the ultimate hit list of the German radio station WDR4 from Cologne.
Over the past three days, the cat was let out of the bag, the station played 80 hours of hits from the 80s and then rounded off the whole thing with nice stories and anecdotes from listeners from that decade. The grand final was also broadcasted on television last night.
As expected, there was no big surprise in the listeners' choice. Sir Rod was able to place himself in the hit ranking with a total of four of his classics: Young Turks, Baby Jane, Downtown Train and Some Guys Have All The Luck. Business as usual, you could say, when it comes to the popularity of Stewart songs among the general public. In the end, it always comes down to the same songs.
Incidentally, the most popular 80s song among WDR4 listeners was In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins, followed by the new goal anthem of the German national football team, Major Tom by Peter Schilling, and Take On Me by a-ha.
