You can like him or dislike him, but there's no denying that what Rod Stewart has created over the last six decades is some of the best the music circus has ever produced.
His millions of fans are thrilled that Sir Rod is still on stage at the ripe old age of almost 80 and has lost none of his energy and talent for entertaining an audience.
I'm fit,’ the singer recently confirmed, and it shows. Who wouldn't want to be so fresh and lively when they get older? No wonder Sir Rod, who enjoys his job so much, recently announced a whopping 20 more shows for 2025 and has now also announced that he wants to be on stage in 2026.
So it's all very easy and just peace, joy and pancakes? Not quite. Because there's a bit of a rumble in the fan circles. Sir Rod has just finished an extensive tour of the USA and has now announced a whole series of new shows in the United States for next year. In some cases, he will be performing at the same venues next year where he played just a few weeks ago.
This has fans of the Brit in the UK a little upset. Why the USA again, what about the concerts in the UK?
Sir Rod's last appearance on the island was in Edinburgh in July 2023. Since then, the singer has played 40 concerts in the USA and Canada, none in the UK. And the Brit's tour schedule for next year, 2025, already includes a further 35 shows on the North American continent. And in the United Kingdom? Not a single one so far. Some fans from the ‘Old World’ fear that Rod is turning too much to the United States in his old age.
The 79-year-old has now announced that he will also be giving concerts in 2026, but in smaller clubs instead of large arenas and in a more intimate atmosphere. He could imagine a mixture of Swing Fever songs and the Great American Songbook, said Rod.
That's complete rubbish,’ said an outraged fan from Manchester, who did not want to be named. The stuff from the Great American Songbook is hardly known here, it's more for the fans across the pond in the USA. Then you can assume that the shows are more likely to take place in the States. Many people think like him. A long-time and loyal Stewart fan from Germany is also concerned about Sir Rod's latest plans. The smaller the venues are, the higher the ticket prices are likely to be,’ he fears. We won't be able to afford the tickets.
That may be true, but it won't be as cheap as the gigs at London's Pryzm Club in February this year, where Rod performed the songs from the new album Swing Fever with Jools Holland on two evenings. Tickets cost £40 at the time, and that included the CD,’ says someone who was there. But it was also a promotional event for the new album.
The only thing that is certain so far is that the next few months will not be boring. And there doesn't seem to be a definitive end in sight to Stewart's concert announcements either, so perhaps fans in the UK will soon be able to get their hands on the best tickets in advance.
