Celtic Football Club became the first club to reach the final of the Scottish League Cup when they beat Aberdeen FC 6-0 (3-0) yesterday. Superfan Rod Stewart did not miss this game at Glasgow's Hampden Park.
Much to the delight of the 79-year-old You're In My Heart singer, the Hoops played like a team of one in the duel between the two strongest Scottish clubs at the moment and were already well clear at half-time: Cameron Carter-Vickers broke the spell after just under half an hour, heading a corner into the net to make it 1-0 (29'). Kyogo Furuhashi made it 2:0 just three minutes later (32‘), before Daizen Maeda made it 3:0 shortly before the break (40’). The teams were barely back on the pitch after the break when Maeda netted again, finally destroying Aberdeen's last hopes of turning the game around with a 4:0 (49'). After just under an hour, Kühn made it 5:0 (59‘) and a few minutes later Maeda completed the half-dozen again (85’).
Rangers then also progressed to the League Cup final this Sunday: In the second semi-final, Celtic's arch-rivals celebrated a narrow 2-1 victory over Motherwell FC. The final will take place on 15 December at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Will Sir Rod be there live again? His concert in Coruna, Spain, is scheduled for 15 December.
