Calypso or reggae? Rod Stewart's hits inspire in Nassau

A location like paradise, in the middle of kilometres of sandy beaches, huge coral reefs and idyllic bays, huge palm trees and tropical landscapes lies the Baha Mar Resort with the Grand Hyatt Hotel and a huge water park.

This dreamlike ambience was the ‘workplace’ of singer Rod Stewart yesterday evening. Admittedly, there are far worse places to work. The concert in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, was the musical highlight of the Culinary & Arts Festival, which began on 22 October and continues until tomorrow, Sunday.

Stewart and his band performed in an exclusive show as part of the ‘Beach Party Powered By SLS Baha Marin Baha Bay Lagoon’, as the event was officially called. In addition to the best Stewart music entertainment, this event also included live cooking stations and exclusive cocktails for visitors to enjoy.

A special setting that also required special musical entertainment, which was of course provided. Sir Rod brought everything to the stage that the fans wanted to hear at his only appearance in the Caribbean this year. Nobody wanted to hear calypso or reggae on this evening - it had to be world hits from six decades and Sir Rod fulfilled their wishes.

The 79-year-old didn't miss out on any of his big hits and the audience danced to Maggie May, swayed to the languid songs such as Tonight's The Night or sang along loudly when Sir Rod started the CCR classic Have You Ever Seen The Rain. Party under the stars - and a Rod Stewart in a good mood again was THE star that everyone wanted to hear and that everyone got.

For the last two concerts still to come this year, Sir Rod will at least have to change the weather and temperature. In December, at least for the gig in Herning, Denmark, the temperatures are likely to be anything but Caribbean and it's not exactly cosy and warm in Coruna, Spain, at this time of year either.
