On Friday, the Celtic FC Foundation organised its annual gala dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in London. Among the guests was music icon and Hoops fan Rod Stewart.
Sir Rod was joined at the gala by former managers and faces of the club, including Martin O'Neill, ex-player Kieran Tierney, who joined Arsenal FC in London in 2019, and of course Brendan Rodgers, the Bhoys' in Green current team manager.
A total of 130 guests were in attendance, raising an enormous £420,000 for the charity.
Celtic Football Club was originally founded in 1887 with the aim of raising money for the poor and underprivileged in Glasgow's East End. The club is still committed to these values today.
In 1995, the Celtic Charity Fund was established by the football club as a charitable foundation with the aim of ‘revitalising and continuing the charitable traditions of Celtic.’
In late 2013, the Celtic Charity Fund was merged with the newly formed Celtic Foundation, creating a stronger charitable organisation with a broader role and greater reach.
The Celtic FC Foundation's priority is to support people facing everyday challenges, with a focus on improving health, promoting equality, encouraging learning and tackling poverty
The evening's entertainment in London was provided by Tony Hadley, Johnny Mac and the Faithful, the Troubadours and the Cross String Quartet.
The huge amount of money raised was raised through live and silent auctions, with guests able to win a host of prizes. The £420,000 raised will benefit various Foundation initiatives including Paradise Pit Stop in Glasgow and Community Games in London and Ireland.
After the official part of the evening, the invited guests enjoyed a relaxed after-show party in The Club at the Four Seasons. It is not yet known whether Sir Rod took to the microphone that evening and performed a serenade.
