It is well known that Sir Rod Stewart, born in the UK, has never made a secret of his love for Scotland. The London-born singer never misses an opportunity to travel to his father's homeland, be it to watch a football match or two, play a concert or simply visit a pub.
Tonight, however, Rod Stewart will be in Scotland for a very special occasion. The Keepers of the Quaiche, an international association based in Scotland whose mission is to maintain, preserve and promote the Scottish whisky culture, will honour Sir Rod for his services to Scotland and the whiskey industry at Blair Castle in Scotland, around 100 kilometres north of Glasgow in the Highlands. To mark the occasion, the 79-year-old will be awarded a medal similar to an order, which is valid for life, during a festive ceremony. The appointment of Keeper (or Master) is regarded as the highest honour awarded within the Scottish whisky culture and is equivalent in significance to the awarding of a medal.
Rod Stewart thus joins the list of famous recipients such as King Charles III, former US President Ronald Reagan and actor Sir Sean Connery.
