Celtic smash six past St Johnstone and are ready for the top flight

Scottish football champions Celtic FC are well prepared for matchday 2 of the Champions League. The team of manager Brendan Rodgers won the away game on matchday 6 in the Scottish Premiership at FC St. Johnstone with a clear 6:0 (3:0). Celtic are level on points with Aberdeen FC at the top of the table (18 each), but the Hoops have a much better goal difference than the Dons.

In Perth, Celtic put in an ‘excellent’ performance from the kick-off, as Rodgers described it in the press conference afterwards. However, it took over half an hour before Kygo Furuhashi put the league leaders 1-0 ahead (35'). Paulo Bernardo and Kyogo again extended the lead to 3:0 by half-time (43‘ and 45’).

After the break, the 7036 spectators at McDiarmid Park saw the same picture. Celtic dominated the game and Hoops veteran Callum McGregor soon scored to make it 4-0 (54). After that, the champions took it a little easier, but never lost control of the game. Daizen Maeda (72) and substitute Adam Idah (83) completed the half-dozen in the closing stages.

Thanks to this resounding victory, the Bhoys in Green will travel to Dortmund with a broad chest, where the second matchday of the Champions League is on the programme on Tuesday. The league action continues next Sunday with an away game at Ross County.
