Videos of music songs have been in demand and hugely popular with fans of musicians, singers and bands since the MTV era in the 1980s. Nowadays, however, the coveted clips are no longer predominantly shown on television, but rather on social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok or Instagram.
Rod Stewart has also been active on these channels for years and has an official account on each. The 79-year-old singer has shared a number of official videos and live recordings on his YouTube account in particular. These include a recording of Stewart's concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2004, where he performed his super hit I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT together with the Scottish - and at the time completely unknown - singer Amy Belle. For many fans, this was one of the best versions of this song ever.
The video from the Royal Albert Hall has now broken the 1 billion barrier on YouTube - more than one billion users have watched this video, which Stewart uploaded to the channel in 2016. As of today (16 August), the exact figure is 1,004,208,017 clicks.
I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT was originally written in 1971 by American guitarist Danny Whitten. The song was first recorded by the American rock band Crazy Horse and released as the last song on side one of their 1971 album of the same name.
However, I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT only became best known through the version by Rod Stewart, who released his version in 1975 on his album ATLANTIC CROSSING.
In 1989, Stewart recorded a new version for his LP box set ‘STORYTELLER - The Complete Anthology 1964-1990’.
I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT reached number one in the British charts, number two in New Zealand, number three in the Netherlands and number four in Ireland.
For the then 22-year-old Amy Belle, the performance with Rod Stewart was a milestone in her career that made her famous around the world overnight. I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT became her own personal hit virtually overnight, and in 2009 she released her own version of this Rod Stewart classic.
Amy Belle was born in Glasgow in 1981 and grew up there. She was the youngest of three children and started covering R.E.M and Alanis Morissette as a street musician as a teenager.
At the age of 17, she left her hometown to find her musical home in London. Three years later, she joined a pop-folk group called The Alice Band. Another three years later, in 2004, she was discovered by a friend of Rod Stewart singing outside a London Underground station.
This coincidence took her from the tube station straight to the stage of the Royal Albert Hall. We all remember her standing up there looking very nervous and shy, and Rod had nothing else to do but remember the football rivalry in Glasgow. ‘Don't worry about the football,’ he said .... ‘ But this girl can sing.....’
Oh yes, she could sing. Rod started the song as usual, but when Amy began her first verse with a strong and clear voice, the audience applauded enthusiastically for this fantastic performance.
After the duet with Rod, Amy moved to Los Angeles thanks to contacts she had made through Rod's management. Once in the USA, she recorded a track with Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek from The Doors and wrote two songs for Miley Cyrus.
In 2009, she recorded a cover version of I Don't Want To Talk About It, which was released on her album Lost In The Shortcut. Alongside this album she produced two EP's in 2008 - Acoustic & Slipping Under.
In 2014 she played several concerts in Germany and the Netherlands. Amy is still very active today and has recently been streaming small concerts for her fans on her social media channels.
