Rod Stewart reports back: back in top form in Saratoga

Maggie May singer Rod Stewart has overcome his Covid illness, which recently forced him to cancel three concerts on his North American tour. Including the 200th performance at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas last Wednesday.

Sir Rod made an impressive return to the stage yesterday in Saratoga, in the US state of New York, and put on a magnificent show in the Mountain Winery Amphitheatre, an old winery.

The 79-year-old, who was once again dancing around in top form and in great spirits, presented 23 songs to the 2,500 fans in the beautiful and sold-out arena. Including a very special moment when singer Richard Marx performed the song SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK together with Sir Rod and a happy fan on the impressive stage.

Rod Stewart is back on stage in Saratoga today, Wednesday, before continuing his US tour on Saturday with a show in Rancho Mirage, California. The shows in Lincoln and Stateline that were cancelled at the weekend will be rescheduled over the next few days. The dates are 18 (Lincoln) and 20 August (Stateline). Tickets already purchased for the two postponed concerts will remain valid.

Long-time Rod Stewart supporter Sharon Forrest McBride was there and told STORYTELLER: ‘Rod was back on top form.  Amazingly beautiful, intimate venue, Mountain Winery in Saratoga CA.  Rod called it ‘fucking unique’.  An open air venue with a capacity of 2500.  Every seat was filled!  Rod scolded a few times for not being able to use his video screen as a backdrop and said he felt like they were playing a wedding.  He informed the audience what would be on the screen if it was there, such as a tribute to Ukraine and Christine McVie.  Rod was very receptive to the audience, calling many fans over to hug and kiss them and take selfies.  At the end, some fans joined him on stage, much to the concern of the security guards who tried to prevent this, but Rod overrode them.  A group of Celtic fans in the second tier were invited by him to the front row, where the seats had not yet been filled by ticket buyers, about 30 minutes into the show.  When the ticket buyer arrived, the Celtic fans were sent back to their seats by security, although one lucky girl, Donna, was brought on stage by Rod, where she sat next to the keyboards for the rest of the show.  WOW, what a night Donna must have had.  Surprise guest Richard Marx sang along with Rod on Some Guys Have All the Luck, he had performed in the venue the night before.  Rod's voice was amazing, you would never have guessed he had been ill the week before.  This evening made up for the concert in Las Vegas that had been cancelled last week due to his illness. As always, Rod seems to be Forever Young!’
