Album Release Review: The albums "A Night On The Town" and "Camouflage" celebrate their birthday

A NIGHT ON THE TOWN from 1976 gave the music world three of the biggest Stewart hits of all time: TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT, THE KILLING OF GEORGIE and FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST are absolute top hits to this day and a permanent fixture in any Rod Stewart concert set list. However, other songs from the 1976 album are overshadowed by these hits. On the one hand, there is the gentle FOOL FOR YOU or TRADE WINDS, absolute secret favourites for many of the singer's long-time fans. But PRETTY FLAMINGO, BALLTRAP or THE WILD SIDE OF LIFE also give A NIGHT ON THE TOWN a very special flavour. It is no coincidence that Rolling Stone wrote of "one of Rod Stewart's best works". A NIGHT ON THE TOWN reached number one in the UK and stayed in the charts for 47 weeks. Stewart went platinum with his seventh studio album.

In 1984 - exactly 40 years ago - Stewart released his album CAMOUFLAGE. This album did not match the success of earlier works and was not particularly well received by fans. CAMOUFLAGE consists of only eight songs and after 36 minutes, the listening pleasure is already over. Nevertheless, the songs INFATUATION and SOME GUYS HAVE ALL THE LUCK with the accompanying videos became long-running hits on the music channel MTV and are still a fixed part of a Stewart concert today. The online portal "Past Prime" describes CAMOUFLAGE as "a light, sometimes entertaining, sometimes terrible and largely dispensable pop album". This album reached its highest chart position in Austria (number 5).  CAMOUFLAGE was characterised by drum computers and synthesizers, Sir Rod was trying to do something new after the great success of his album BODY WISHES (1983), with the number 1 hit BABY JANE. However, the album did not become an album classic.
